Katherine M. Hedeen is a prize-winning translator of poetry and essayist. A specialist in Latin American poetry, she has translated some of the most respected voices from the region into English. Her latest book-length publications include prepoems in postspanish by Jorgenrique Adoum, Book of the Cold by Antonio Gamoneda, Every Beat Is Secret by Fina García Marruz, Almost Obscene by Raúl Gómez Jattin, and rebel matter by Víctor Rodríguez Núñez. She is the co-editor, with Welsh poet Zoë Skoulding, of the groundbreaking transatlantic translation anthology, Poetry’s Geographies. Her co-translation of Venezuelan poet, Juan Calzadilla, was recently awarded the Wisconsin Poetry Series’ inaugural translation competition. Her work has been a finalist for both the Best Translated Book Award and the National Translation Award. She is a recipient of two NEA Translation Grants in the US and a PEN Translates award in the UK. She is Managing Editor of the transnational / translational indie press, Action Books. She is based in Havana, Cuba and Mount Vernon, Ohio, where she is Professor of Spanish at Kenyon College.
Katherine M. Hedeen (Salem, Oregon, USA, 1971) es traductora, ensayista y profesora universitaria. Se especializa en poesía hispanoamericana y ha investigado sobre varios autores contemporáneos de esta región, y en especial las poetas cubanas Fina García-Marruz, Carilda Oliver Labra y Georgina Herrera. Ha traducido al inglés y prologado libros de entre otros, Jorgenrique Adoum, Juan Bañuelos, Juan Calzadilla, Antonio Gamoneda, Fina García Marruz, Raúl Gómez Jattin, Juan Gelman, Fayad Jamís, Hugo Mujica, José Emilio Pacheco, Víctor Rodríguez Núñez e Ida Vitale, así como dos antologías de la poesía cubana contemporánea. Sus traducciones de esos y muchos otros autores hispanos han aparecido ampliamente en revistas literarias de Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido. También ha traducido al español libros de Mark Strand y John Kinsella, así como la antología de la poesía indígena estadounidense, En esa redonda nación de sangre y la antología de la poesía galesa contemporánea, Nuestra tierra de nadie. Es editora de la editorial norteamericana Action Books. Ha recibido en dos ocasiones en Estados Unidos la beca National Endowment for the Arts por sus traducciones de Los poemas de Sidney West de Juan Gelman (2009) y de El amor desenterrado de Jorgenrique Adoum (2015).
